GPS logger

Currently, in all logistics or transport companies which manage vehicle fleets, GPS tracking of vehicles has become necessary. GPS tracking allows for a precise record and location of vehicles with the help of a special device. GPS logger is an element installed in user's vehicle. It is 100% designed and executed by our company and by this, it is a flexible solution in terms of configuration and functionality.

Main elements of the logger include:
  • supersensitive GPS receiver which locates a vehicle with precision up to about 2 m,
  • GSM modem adjusted to GPRS package transmission.

TransMobil GPS logger operates on an event way. Information is generated based on a fully configured map of events. Recording of travelled distance is performed based on 4 basic conditions:

  • every 15 minutes in situation when a car is not moving (ignition OFF)
  • every 1 km (ignition ON)
  • every 5 minutes if more than 5 minutes from the last event have passed (ignition ON)
  • after a change of vehicle driving direction of more than 45 degrees, however not more frequently than every 200 m
The device works in two modes:
  • Offline – the recorded data is collected to FLASH cache. This mode allows for checking of a current position via SMS. Cache has been designed to store over 5000 events,
  • Online – the device sends generated data to the server on a current basis via GPRS transmission package. This mode also allows for sending the data generated in the offline mode.

The logger is also equipped with a module which reads information from vehicle CAN bus. Modern passenger cars as well as heavy goods vehicles use the Control Area Network protocol for communication between control modules. By connecting the logger to car’s network, we receive the access to operational data of the vehicle. The device may record the following car parameters:

  • total operating time,
  • total fuel consumption,
  • vehicle’s speed,
  • engine’s rpm,
  • engine’s temperature,
  • level of fuel in the tank,
  • opening of doors.

Recording of the car’s parameters allows the Customer to fully check the way of its operation. The Customer can also evaluate the driver's driving style.

 

Control of fuel

 

Continuously increasing fuel prices make the costs of keeping company's vehicle fleet increase over and over again. Uncontrolled mileage and fuel-letting that happen on everyday basis have a negative impact on company's finances.

 

Many company owners ask themselves if it is possible to decrease the costs of fuel purchase. It is!

 

 

TransMobil provides a comprehensive control system based on:

  • fuel-probe installed in the vehicle’s tank,
  • CAN module which collects information from on board computer,

 

Data is send via a transmitter placed in the vehicle directly onto our company’s server and after appropriate processing, presented in form of graphs or tables. Moreover, you do not need to continually analyse particular data. Notification about possible excesses may be sent via email, on your mobile phone or internet Messenger.

TransMobil fuel monitoring system is a solution which ensures full control by allowing to:

Fuel probe

Installation of a fuel probe is currently the most popular method of control in various types of vehicles. Savings connected with owing such type of a system have significant influence on company’s financial condition. Nowadays, when prices of oil continuously increase, counteracting non-authorised mileage or fuel-letting is an inseparable element of managing vehicles fleet in each company.

 

Our company supplies the control system based on fuel probes which ensure unique precision of measurement in all conditions. Different types of fuel, extreme weather conditions or moving of fuel in the tank do not however influence the measurement. Our highly qualified team of installers performs also full calibration of fuel tanks during each installation, what significantly influences precision of the reading.

 

 

 

CAN bus

Controller Area Network, developed for the car industry, is a communication network operating inside the vehicle. It allows for mutual exchange of information between particular microcontrollers which are responsible for functioning of the engine, air conditioning, ABS, central lock etc. Our company offers a device which allows for „listening” to communicates from CAN bus. Data transmitted via GPS transmitter is immediately sent to our server where after processing, it is presented on TransMobil website.

 

 

Use of this system provides many not accessible until now options:

  • control of engine use (too high rpm, temperature),
  • control of fuel (reading from float),
  • control of voltage (condition of the battery),
  • speed,
  • mileage,
  • control of CO2 emissions.

Verification of particular data coming from CAN gives full picture of the way of using the vehicles.

 

Driver’s working time

Each driver receives a chip with assigned unique number for them. At the beginning of work, the driver puts the chip to the reader and gets a sound confirmation and green light turns on the panel. At the end of work, the driver puts it again, gets the sound confirmation and red light flashes on. If the driver forgets to authorise himself at the beginning of the work, he will get the sound reminder and red light will start flashing on the panel. On the basis of this data, the system starts automatic allocation driver-vehicle and settling working time as well as travelled distance.

The button allows for determination of the type of using the vehicle, privately or for business purposes. Choosing between these types of driving gets done each time the ignition is on. Failing to press any button is notified with a constant sound signal. If there is no such button, time intervals can be introduced to the system, thanks to which the system will automatically count using of the vehicle. Division of the drive for business and private is visualised in the system via report, which settles time od driving and driver’s route.

 

 

 

Authorisation of ignition

Each time the ignition is to be on, it should be authorised by approaching or pressing the card/chip to the reader. The authorisation module may be performed based on the following modules:

  • RFID: cards work on a wi-fi basis with the use of radio waves, while the reader is hidden under the dashboard,
  • Dallas: here we deal with a direct electric connection – the chip has to be placed to the reader’s socket, which is placed on the dashboard for a while

Chips or cards have a unique number which is assigned in the system to a particular driver. During authorisation the system automatically assigns the driver to the vehicle. The module performs the role of immobiliser; if the driver does not authorise himself prior to setting the ignition on, alarm will go on. You can assign a particular vehicle or all vehicles from a given company to a driver. If he tries to start the vehicle which is not assigned to him on, it will cause the alarm to go on, just like in case of no authorisation.

 

 

Sensor

Equipment working sensors

Information about working of installed in the vehicle additional execution electric, hydraulic or pneumatic elements is one of the more frequent information that is needed to monitor vehicle's work. These include the following:

  • pumps,
  • temperature sensors,
  • units,
  • HDS,
  • compressors,
  • webasto,
  • scatter and/or plough sensors,
  • flaps.

 

 

Each electric signal which appears in vehicle’s installation we can easily connect to the GPS logger and link to vehicle position, time, speed or condition of other sensors. Obviously in case of hydraulic or pneumatic elements required are specialist signal converters (which we will add) in order to get electric signal in the end.

 

Application  SystemGPS

The System

Using the most recent technology, TransMobil created a unique programme which allows for efficient management of each company vehicles. Precise maps which we use, allow for a possibility to observe many vehicles at the same time. Visualisation of the routes presents the user the distance travelled in a given time frame, with a location of potential excesses marked, e.g. stop with the engine on for over than 10 min. Broad reports section composed of graphs, tables, statistics or various types of events lists enables detailed and precise verification of the whole history of using the vehicle or settling driver's working time. Our software was created out of concern for simplicity of using and personalisation. Therefore, there is a possibility to set own zones, corridors and determine alarm rules. Notifications about possible excesses may be sent to an email address or popular messengers. We also understand that each company is different. And that’s why we approach each customer individually by modifying and adjusting the software for specific requirements.

 

Mobile application MobileGPS

Mobile version of the system works on all devices with Android and iOS system and does not require external applications. It automatically adjusts to screen resolution and uses the embedded browser. Transmission is done via an internet browser secured with encoded SSL transmission which ensures confidentiality and security.

Basic elements of mobile application for GPS monitoring include:

  • Last active position of a selected car or machines.
  • Factual speed of a selected car or machine.
  • Reading of alarm reports and warnings.
  • Tracking of car's or machine's position in factual time.
  • Identification of drivers.
 

Integration of IT systems

We are aware of the fact that nowadays almost all companies have at least few IT systems supporting work of various departments. It very frequently happens that each of these systems is implemented by other supplier and they are not linked with one another. This entails the necessity to rewrite the data from one application to another, what significantly increases the risk of making a mistake. Additionally, duplicating the same information in various IT systems leads to doing inefficient and in fact, unnecessary work.

We have introduced the possibility to integrate the systems via a network service WebAPI-TransMobil. Such connection allows for efficient and effective use from the data resources delivered by TransMobil system. It is worth mentioning that WebAPI-TransMobil is a network service which bases its operation on the following protocols:

  • XML
  • SOAP
  • REST JSON

These protocols may be easily used in many most popular environments as they have big support in form of available many libraries and programmes.

In order to increase the flexibility of our solutions and improve competitiveness of our customers we have decided to implement the integration of TransMobil with TC eMap® TimoCom, a leading transport platform on the European marke,t which is dedicated to suppliers and logistic companies. Connecting the systems of TransMobil and TimoCom gives a possibility to share information about location of freight in a given time. Forwarder can assess the possibility of execution and prepare an order without the need to contract the carrier, while the carrier himself may share the information about the freight with other forwarders or the customers themselves.
